Mato Oput follows the efforts of Church leaders in Northern Uganda to help rebuild their society after decades of civil war and terrible violence. One of their most poignant challenges is how to reintegrate into the community young people who had been abducted as children and forced to become soldiers.
Mato Oput was completed in the fall of 2011. Over the following year it screened at a number of film festivals in the United States, including the Omaha Film Festival. Mato Oput won Best Picture and Best Cinematography awards at the Re: Image Film Festival; a first-place award at the Imago Film Festival; Best Documentary and Best of Show Awards at the Elkhorn Film Festival. It was also an official Selection of the Peace on Earth Film Festival.
